2012 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards

After the list of nominations for the 2012 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards were announced, the VGMA Board and Academy, which were collectively responsible for the final list, came under criticism for what was perceived largely as nominating artists and songs that did not deserve to be nominated; or not nominating deserving ones. But the issue of who deserves a nomination could be debated forever; however my contention going into the main awards tonight is choosing logical winners.
Perhaps overly simplistic but after the industry awards on Monday night, I have cause to point out what I consider illogical. Gifty Osei won the Gospel Album of the Year at the industry awards, which was voted by the VGMA Board and Academy. She beat 5 other gospel artists including Philipa Baafi, Selina Boateng, Bernice Ansah, Lady Prempeh and Diana Antwi Hamilton to the honours. However when you look at the Album of the Year category, which would be handed out tonight, Selina Boateng is the only gospel artist in there. So the question is how come the biggest gospel album of the year isn’t in that category?
